PC vs PET vs GPPS: Choosing Clear Plastics

Plastic is a product refined from petroleum, and it is used widely in high-speed blenders and electric meat grinders — the categories buyers search for most often as “high-speed blender”, “blender for smoothies”, “electric meat grinder” and “food chopper”. Every part, whatever its shape or function, calls for a different plastic. Langfang Jindu Household Products Co., Ltd. has more than fifteen years of injection-moulding experience. Below we explain how to tell apart the plastics most often used in small kitchen appliances, so that buyers can compare quotations with more confidence. Buyers often treat every transparent part as “plastic”, then wonder why one jar clouds after a hot rinse while another survives a year of daily blending.

PC (polycarbonate) is the toughest of the three. It absorbs impact instead of cracking, carries heat to roughly 120–130 °C, and keeps a warm, slightly amber clarity. It is also the most expensive, scratches more easily than glass, and must be dried carefully before moulding because it absorbs moisture. That is why PC suits hot-side jugs and heavy-duty housings, not disposable cups.

PET is the opposite trade. It is bright, glass-like and inexpensive, with excellent gloss and a good oxygen barrier, which is why it dominates cold cups, storage containers and retail packaging. Its ceiling is heat: above roughly 70–80 °C it starts to distort, so it has no place next to a heating element.

GPPS is the cheapest route to perfect transparency. It is stiff and brilliant, tints cleanly for light diffusion, and moulds easily — but it is brittle and softens early. Use it for display windows, indicator covers and light guides, never for a part that is dropped or screwed.

Our rule: heat and impact go to PC, cold and clarity to PET, light and price to GPPS. Tell us where the part sits and what it touches, and we will match the grade before the tool is cut.
